Darlington refurbishment project

  Central Ontario is home to 20 of our hydroelectric facilities, some of which, like our Sills Island Generating Station, have been part of their community for more than one hundred years.
Eastern Ontario

  Eastern Ontario is host to one gas-fired generating station and 15 of our hydroelectric generating stations on the St. Lawrence, Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers.
Northeastern Ontario

  Northeastern Ontario contains 14 of our hydroelectric stations, including several we built or redeveloped through key partnerships with local Indigenous communities.

  Northwestern Ontario hosts 11 of our hydroelectric stations as well as a former coal generating station that we converted to use biomass as fuel.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Working to advance Reconciliation

The Reconciliation Action Plan is our road map for how we intend to work in partnership with Indigenous communities, businesses, and organizations to advance Reconciliation. It’s also about how we intend to grow and continue learning as an organization.

Our Plan is a living document that will continuously evolve as new initiatives and opportunities emerge. But the one overriding premise is that we cannot do this on our own. We will work with Indigenous communities, businesses, organizations -- and all our partners across the sector -- to bring our Plan to life.

Our goals

We have identified five overall goals to guide our actions, which build on our progress to-date.

We will be accountable and track progress with metrics and targets around commitments.

We will build positive, mutually beneficial relationships based on respect and understanding.

We will create an engaged, inclusive workforce that reflects the diversity of Indigenous communities and peoples across our company.

We will advance economic reconciliation with Indigenous communities and businesses through engagement, collaboration and partnership.

We will be a trusted partner in environmental stewardship and an ally in addressing climate change.

Key actions

OPG has seen the immediate and lasting economic benefits that come from clean power partnerships and the increased participation of Indigenous businesses in our initiatives -- benefits like job creation, skills development and stable revenue streams.

We see partnership as a way forward, and we know there is much more we can do.

OPG commits to growing our economic impact for Indigenous communities and businesses to $1 billion over the next 10 years, through our ongoing operations, projects and initiatives.

We will also increase the representation of Indigenous employees across all levels and businesses of OPG.

We will work with the Indigenous Opportunities Network (ION) to grow the Indigenous skilled talent pool within OPG and the broader energy industry.

And foster the next generation of Indigenous Energy professionals through the development of a partnership with a post-secondary institution.

Key accomplishments - 2023

In the third year of our Reconciliation journey, we are proud to share that we have completed all our 2023 goals.

We are seeing the new processes created in 2021 and 2022 become part of our everyday way of thinking, and we’re beginning to see systemic changes taking place.

We are seeing the RAP impact on our company culture. Reconciliation champions are standing up across our company as employees support important events.

Continued to communicate Indigenous cultural celebration events and learning opportunities and promote participation by hosting National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations, Treaty Week lunch-and-learn sessions, and a Truth and Reconciliation Day virtual tour of the Mohawk Institute through the Woodland Cultural Centre. Participation ranged from 50-250 people at each of these events.

Our goal to see expanded opportunities for Indigenous Businesses to participate in nuclear procurement has resulted in three nuclear-qualified Indigenous suppliers.

Cumulatively, we have awarded $198 million in Indigenous contract and $39.4 million in equity distributions to our Indigenous partners toward our commitment to have an economic impact of $1 billion dollars.
