We are innovating and investing in a cleaner tomorrow

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has made Ontario's electricity sector among the cleanest in North America. Less than 2% of our province's carbon emissions come from electricity. That puts OPG in a great position to help Ontario decarbonize in areas like transportation, industry, and home heating. That's where our investments in clean technologies come in.

Darlington SMR

Nuclear has a big future, and it comes in a small package. At our Darlington site, OPG will soon build Canada's first commercial small modular reactor (SMR) with plans to build three more to generate enough electricity to power 1.2 million homes.

Electrification

As more people switch to electric cars, Ontario needs to be ready with new infrastructure and new technology that make charging your car as easy and convenient as a trip to the gas station.

Clean hydrogen

Through our subsidiary, Atura Power, OPG is taking the lead to bring clean hydrogen to the market. As a portable fuel that can store large amounts of energy and work as a substitute for gasoline and diesel, clean hydrogen is critical to OPG's net-zero goals.

Energy storage

The low-carbon future requires the ability to store large amounts of clean energy for use when demand is peaking. OPG, and our subsidiaries, are exploring batteries and other innovative storage technologies.
