OPG and Bruce Power release 2021 Nuclear Collaboration Report

Tiverton, ON – Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) continue a long tradition of working together to provide safe and reliable electricity to the province and are helping to lead the charge to achieve the province’s climate change goals.

This collaboration is a key component of Ontario’s electrical system, providing stable baseload power, while at the same time innovating to supply the province and the country with clean energy initiatives and producing life-saving medical isotopes for a global market. The two companies are also working together to power economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Nuclear energy is one of the keys to Ontario’s clean electricity system, now and in the future. Our collaborative approach will ensure we continue to identify efficiencies and provide value while securing additional decades of the clean, reliable, safe power Ontarians need.”
Ken Hartwick, OPG President and CEO

The Nuclear Collaboration Report focuses on the joint efforts of OPG and Bruce Power to keep the lights on, support the economy, and protect the environment for the people, businesses and hospitals in Ontario. This is only possible through the hard work of the tens of thousands of people who directly or indirectly support our industry, and through the relationships developed with partners in Indigenous communities.

“Nuclear energy is one of the keys to Ontario’s clean electricity system, now and in the future,” said OPG President and CEO Ken Hartwick. “Our collaborative approach to nuclear refurbishment will ensure we continue to identify efficiencies and provide value while securing additional decades of the clean, reliable, safe power Ontarians need.”

The refurbishment of Ontario’s nuclear fleet is a key to providing decades of carbon-free, baseload electricity. Working alongside the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), to complete this important work will ensure the people of Ontario have access to safe, clean and reliable electricity during the completion of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program and OPG’s four-unit refurbishment at Darlington, and for decades to come.

“Our shared vision of a clean energy future means we are working together to revitalize Ontario’s nuclear fleet and the economy, while at the same time exploring innovations for a clean energy future and supplying medical isotopes at home and around the world,” said Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck.
