Robin Manley, OPG’s recently retired Vice President of New Nuclear Development, received the President’s Award from the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) and Canadian Nuclear Association at the 41st CNS Annual Conference in June. The award recognizes an individual, group, or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding achievement or service of benefit to the CNS or broader nuclear science and technology community.

Colleagues within the Canadian nuclear industry nominated Manley for the award based on his outstanding contributions to nuclear power during his decades-long career at OPG, particularly in the areas of health physics and radiation protection.

In his most recent role, Manley’s leadership has been instrumental in guiding the company’s advancement of new nuclear development and its ongoing Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project at Darlington.

“I would like to thank the Canadian Nuclear Society for this tremendous honour. I am truly humbled.”

“Robin has been one of the strongest voices leading this latest nuclear renaissance for our industry and his ability to communicate and connect with all audiences continues to serve us all,” said Paul Thompson, President of PD Thompson Nuclear Support Services Inc.

Manley started his journey in nuclear power in the U.K., working with a consulting engineering company. He returned to Canada in 1990 to start work at OPG’s Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in Health Physics, where he spent the next 20 years in various roles of increasing responsibility.

In subsequent years, he provided leadership in OPG’s nuclear power licensing program, including as VP Nuclear Regulatory Affairs and Stakeholder Relations. Manley also chaired the CANDU Owner’s Group SMR Technology Forum and the working group of the Canadian CEO SMR Forum.

In his final role with OPG, as Vice President of New Nuclear Development, he provided critical leadership and mentoring in the fields of new nuclear, SMRs, nuclear licensing and regulatory affairs, and radiation protection.

“I would like to thank the Canadian Nuclear Society for this tremendous honour. I am truly humbled,” said Manley.

Through his dedication and outstanding contributions, Robin Manley has had a tremendous impact on not only OPG, but also the wider Canadian nuclear industry. OPG congratulates him on this well-deserved recognition.
