Statement on discovery of 215 children at former residential school

In honour of the 215 children whose remains were discovered at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, OPG will be lowering flags at its sites across Ontario for 215 hours. See our President and CEO’s full statement:

"OPG honours and mourns the loss of 215 innocent children whose remains were discovered at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation territory.  They are among the thousands of children, some yet to be found, who died while attending residential schools across our nation.

Like other Canadians, we are shaken by this discovery and we are once again reminded of the inter-generational trauma that Indigenous people continue to experience as a result of Canada’s residential school system. We sincerely hope their families and communities can begin to find peace and healing, and that Indigenous people receive the truth and reconciliation they rightly deserve.
The flags at OPG sites across the province will be lowered for the next 215 hours to honour the memory of the 215 children who tragically lost their lives."
Ken Hartwick, OPG President and CEO
