Exploring BiodiversityMonday, March. 10, 20259 a.m. to 1 p.m. REGISTER NOW | Join the River Institute at the OPG Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre for a fun event to learn about local biodiversity. River Institute Educators will provide guided nature walks outside where guests can identify birds and look for animal tracks. Binoculars and field guides are available for participants. Inside the centre there will be the opportunity to learn how to identify different animals from bones. Participants can also use microscopes to try and identify aquatic invertebrates to learn about their diversity. Recommended for all ages. |
Guided Snowshoe Adventure!Tuesday, March 11, 2025Session 1: 10 to 11 a.m. REGISTER NOWSession 2: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. REGISTER NOWSession 3: 12 to 1 p.m. REGISTER NOW | Join staff from the Raisin Region Conservation Authority for a guided snowshoe, or hiking adventure, in and around the woods near the OPG Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre! Warm up afterwards with hot chocolate while enjoying a variety of fun educational activities inside the Centre. Learn all about winter tree identification, watersheds, biodiversity, conservation practices, identifying wildlife tracks, native plants, and trees, and more! Join an educational plant and wildlife scavenger hunt both inside and outside the Visitor Centre for a chance to win prizes. Organizers recommend that guests plan to arrive 10 minutes prior to their guided snowshoe session. Recommended for all ages. Register today. Space is limited. Workshop: Electricity Snap Circuits and Beaver Lodge Dam BuildingTuesday, March 11, 20252:30 to 4 p.m. REGISTER NOW | Students are introduced to electricity and build various snap circuits in groups to see how electrical energy is transformed to light energy, mechanical energy, and learn the difference between parallel and series circuits. In pairs, students build a beaver dam and lodge. Strong and stable structures are discussed in the introduction. Lodges are tested for strength using books or just pressing down with their hand. The importance of beavers to wetland ecosystems will be discussed. Recommended for all ages 11-13. Register today. Space is limited. |
Shoot, Score, Science and More!Wednesday, March 12, 202511 a.m. REGISTER NOW | Jump, shoot, roll and glide; can you find science in sport with Scientists in School? Take a test to discover where your dominance lies. Create a sculpture to investigate how throwing a ball affects your balance. Discover physics by engineering a better hockey puck and building a mini golf course. Join us as we shoot, score and explore the science of sport. Be a chemist and discover the difference between baking soda and powder. Create a fantastical creature while investigating dominant and recessive genes. Make a pompom launcher and explore physics.
