EV drivers get a big boost as Ivy fast-chargers now open at ONroute sites
Along one of Ontario’s busiest highways, electric vehicle (EV) drivers now have several options to quickly and conveniently charge their car and get back on the road.
On Feb. 23, the Ivy Charging Network, a joint venture between OPG and Hydro One with additional funding provided by Natural Resources Canada, along with ONroute and its partners Canadian Tire and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, opened the first six Charge & Go level 3 fast-charger locations at select ONroute stops along Highway 401.
Ivy’s fast-chargers are now energized and ready for drivers at ONroute’s Cambridge North, Cambridge South, Napanee, Odessa, West Lorne, and Dutton locations. These new chargers support all EV models, including Teslas, and can deliver up to a 100 km charge in just 10 minutes.
By the summer, Ivy’s fast-chargers will be available at 17 ONroute locations along Highways 401 and 400, with another three ONroute locations opening before the end of the year.

Ivy continues to expand at a rapid pace to help further spur adoption of EVs by ending range anxiety for drivers.
The network will soon be the largest EV fast-charging network in Ontario, with 150 fast chargers across more than 60 sites by 2022. This includes a total of 69 level 3 fast-chargers expected to be installed across all ONroute locations, with each location offering between two and four chargers.
The venture is just one of the ways OPG is continuing to help decarbonize the transportation sector, which is now the province’s largest source of carbon emissions at more than 30 per cent.
OPG also recently launched a new subsidiary, PowerON Energy Solutions, to provide electrification and charging infrastructure for municipal transit agencies and corporate fleets. PowerON is currently working with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and Toronto Hydro to electrify more than 2,400 TTC buses – North America’s largest transit electrification project to date.
Together, these initiatives are leveraging Ontario’s clean electricity system to electrify transportation and help OPG and the province meet its climate change goals.
