Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is Ontario’s leader in generating clean, safe, reliable, and low-cost power. We meet about half of the province’s energy needs through a diverse mix of generating assets consisting of hydroelectric stations, nuclear plants, solar, biomass, and natural gas. Our power is building stronger communities, helping to fight climate change, preserving ecological diversity, and bolstering economic growth.

In 2014, we helped complete one of the world’s single-largest actions to combat climate change when we closed the last of our coal-fired generating stations. The end of coal in Ontario led to cleaner air and reduced provincial greenhouse gas emissions by about 17% – the equivalent of taking seven million cars off the road. Today, Ontario’s electricity system stands as one of the cleanest grids in the world. OPG is now building on this achievement through our Climate Change Plan, which outlines our plan to become a net-zero carbon company by 2040. To reach our goals and electrify life in one generation, we are advancing new low-carbon technologies, such as Small Modular Reactors, and building partnerships with Indigenous communities to develop new clean energy projects.
