For more than two decades, the Durham-area program has provided family-friendly activities for children aged six to 12 years on select Tuesdays in July and August at OPG’s Pickering and Darlington nuclear sites.

With the help of local high school student volunteers and the support of OPG’s community partners, this year’s Tuesdays on the Trail lineup provided fun, free and educational morning activities at Alex Robertson Park in Pickering and along the Darlington Waterfront Trail in Courtice.

“Both programs made a huge impact on the community residents who joined us,” said Leah Bourgeois, OPG Senior Communications Advisor, who helped organize this year’s events. “We want to thank all the student volunteers and valuable community partners who made this summer’s Tuesdays on the Trail such a success.”

This year, kids learned about Indigenous traditions, explored backyard bugs, had fun with science experiments, unleashed their creativity with art in the park, and greeted a few furry friends from WindReach Farm.

In addition to WindReach Farm, community partners included All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle and Friends, Scientists in School, Driftwood Theatre Group, Clarington Museums, Station Gallery, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Central Lakes and Conservation Authority, Clarington Museums and Archives, and the Clarington Public Library.

Overall, the sunny weather helped keep spirits high, although rain forced the cancellation of one day’s activities at both sites.

Missed out on the fun? Join us next summer for another season of Tuesdays on the Trail.
