The Site Environmental Advisor is supporting Feed Ontario via Canada Helps, and is promising to shave his entire body if his “COVID Clean-up” campaign can reach its goal of $2,500 raised for the organization. Uniting food banks and hunger-relief agencies across the province, Feed Ontario serves nearly 335,000 people every month.

“I just wanted to help out the community,” said Sanna, who is appealing to his OPG colleagues and the public to support the cause. “Some of us are very fortunate to be able to continue to work, and I wanted to do something to reach out and help the less fortunate, who are facing financial hardships and might not know where their next meal is coming from. I asked, ‘What can I do?’”

He is one of many OPG employees who have made an effort to give to various charities and food relief agencies since the start of the pandemic.

So far, OPG has donated more than $1 million to individual communities and groups supporting food vulnerable residents across the province, including Feed Ontario, Regional Food Distribution Association of Northwestern Ontario, and Feed the Need in Durham Region. Individual employees have raised an additional $3,065.

Since Sanna’s campaign started on June 18, $1,200 has already been raised from donations from across the company. The deadline for donations is set for July 19, and if his goal is met he will livestream the shaving of his beard and head to OPG employees on July 23.

“My wife and family have been good sports about all of this, as have all my fellow employees,” he said. “She’ll be happy when I finally get to shave all of this off soon, and frankly I will too given the summer heat.”

To make your own donation and support Sanna’s cause, visit Canadahelps.org and mention “John Sanna’s COVID Clean-Up” in the comment box. Every dollar donated to Feed Ontario provides three meals to an Ontarian in need. And $30 is enough to supply an individual with enough food for a week through an Emergency Food Box.
