Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has been proudly operating in Eastern Ontario for over 100 years. Today we have one thermal facility and 10 hydroelectric generating stations on the St. Lawrence, Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers. These stations, their employees, and host communities play an important role in generating clean, reliable power for Ontario.
See how we are a part of communities across Eastern Ontario and learn about our many local programs, initiatives, and events.

OPG is making upgrades to structures on the bridge to Limerick Island near Chenaux Generating Station to ensure our continued safe operations.
The project is now nearing completion and so at this time we are not expecting any further overnight road closures. This page will be updated should any closures be required in 2024.
Thank you for your understanding. Please travel safely.
OPG is conducting fisheries research on the Madawaska River
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is conducting research in the vicinity of its hydroelectric generating stations on the Madawaska River. Research activities will include fish abundance and fish habitat studies carried out by Kleinschmidt Associates in support of the Calabogie Generating Station Redevelopment Project.
Kleinschmidt Associates will carry out studies from shoreline and by boat that may be in close proximity to the shoreline. This research is conducted under permit from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and is required under a Fisheries Act Authorization from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans under the Fisheries Act (RSC, 1985, c. F-14). Work will commence in April and continue until early Fall this year.
Please visit opg.com/biodiversity to learn more about OPG’s biodiversity programs.
Generating power with purpose
Our role in Ontario isn’t just measured by kilowatts (although we’re really good at producing them); it’s measured by our relationships, the impact we make, and the future we leave to the next generation. That’s why we strive to be good corporate citizens who care about the environmental, economic, and social wellbeing of all Ontario.

Madawaska River Water Management
OPG works with local waterpower companies and the Ministry of Natural Resources on a balanced approach to water management on the Madawaska River that considers the various interests of many users.
The result of this work is the Madawaska River Water Management Plan, which includes operational plans for each waterpower facility or dam, provisions for management of water levels and flows, stakeholder communication, and environmental programming.
