The health and safety of our employees and contractors is OPG’s number one priority. We are committed to sustaining a strong safety culture and continuous improvement of our health and safety management system.
OPG’s safety performance continues to be among the best when benchmarked against Canadian electrical utilities of a similar size, and we are proud to have been recognized on numerous occasions by the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) for our safety performance. In 2016, OPG received the CEA President’s Gold Award of Excellence for Employee Safety. This award recognizes OPG for maintaining safety performance in the top quartile for three consecutive years.
Despite our safety performance being among the best, OPG continues to strive for zero injuries and incidents. To help reach this goal, we launched the “iCare” campaign, a company-wide initiative that profiles individual employees talking about what safety means to them. While OPG maintains a robust Health and Safety Management System, it is our employees’ actions, grounded in safety, which will propel us to the next level of safety performance.
Total Health Initiative
The OPG Total Health initiative fosters a company-wide health culture that helps employees pursue their optimal health outcomes by providing them with education, empowerment and resources. OPG also delivers comprehensive mental health training to our key leaders, to improve their knowledge and awareness, and build their skills to recognize and respond to mental health issues in the workplace.
