Overview
Pickering A Units 2 & 3 GDS Environmental Assessment

At the end of 1997, OPG shut down all four reactors (Units 1 to 4) at Pickering A Nuclear Generating Station (PNGS A). In order to return PNGS A back to service, OPG conducted an Environmental Assessment (EA) that assessed all activities related to their return to service and continued operation over their remaining planned operational life.

Following EA approval, Units 1 and 4 were returned to service. However, in August 2005, OPG announced that Units 2 and 3 would not be returned to service. As OPG will not return these units in service, the units will be transitioned to a Guaranteed Defuelled State (GDS).

As a result, OPG will conduct an EA to assess the unique activities required to place Pickering A Units 2 and 3 in a GDS.
