MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD
The Joint Review Panel for the Darlington New Nuclear Project (the Panel) proceeded with the public hearing phase of the environmental review. The hearings took place from March 21, 2011 to April 8, 2011 in the Municipality of Clarington at Hope Fellowship Church (1685 Bloor Street Courtice, ON L1E 2N1). Public hearings are an essential element of the review of the proposed Darlington New Nuclear Project.
Background:
On September 29, 2009, following three and a half years of study OPG submitted the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and an updated application for a licence to prepare the site for the Darlington New Nuclear Project. From November 2009 to November 2010 the Panel undertook an exhaustive public and technical review of the materials. This comment period was designed to facilitate the gathering of information to allow the Panel to determine if the information provided by OPG in the EIS, in the documents supporting the licence application and the additional information provided in response to information requests by the Panel – sufficiently responds to the EIS Guidelines. The Panel has determined that it has sufficient information to proceed to the final review stage.
Next Steps:
In order to assist the public in preparing for the hearings, the Panel has released hearing procedures. Please note, participants must register by January 13, 2011. The procedures describe how organizations, businesses or individuals can make presentations to the Panel on any aspect within the scope of the review.
