HISTORICAL NOTES:

The Caribou development, which raised the overall capacity of the Northwestern Region to approximately 547 000 kilowatts, recalls the colorful gold mining days in the Red Lake area of Ontario's Patricia District and the Commissions's successive steps in developing the hydroelectric resources of the English River. The Caribou station was the third plant built along the English River which represented just a fraction of the widespread program undertaken to meet the challenge of expansion in mining and also pulp and paper industries.
