Optimizing the use of existing water at Ear Falls GS OPG has added a new 12.5 megawatt generating unit capable of generating approximately 52 million kilowatt hydroelectricity per year. Enough electricity to meet the yearly demands of 5,000 homes.
OPG's first new hydroelectric generating station since OPG was formed is adjacent to the existing Ear Falls Generating Station on the English River in Ear Falls. The station was declared in service February 18, 2009.
OPG and the Lac Seul First Nation have formed a historic partnership that will see the First Nation own 25 per cent of the Lac Seul Generating Station. The station will also be known by its aboriginal name of Obishikokaang Waasiganikewigamig. In the Ojibway language, this means the "White Pine Narrows generating station White Pine Narrows is the original Ojibway name for the area where the station is located.
