LAC SEUL PROJECT
OPG is optimizing its use of existing water at Ear Falls GS by adding a new 12.5 MW generating unit capable of generating approximately 52 million kilowatt hours of clean, reliable hydroelectricity per year. That is enough electricity to meet the yearly demands of 4,000 homes. Water levels on the lake or below the station will be the same after completion of the project as they are now.
Ear Falls Generating Station is owned and operated by Ontario Power Generation. The station was built by the Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario in the 1920s and the first unit began operating in 1930. Three additional units were added between 1937 and 1948.
