HISTORICAL NOTE:
When originally constructed by the Sidney Electric Power Company (part of the Electric Power Company), Frankford generating station was called "Sidney Number 2". This designation has resulted in some confusion in historical records over the years with the present Sidney plant at Dam No. 2 which was put into service about a year before Frankford and is often referred to as "Number 2 Powerhouse".
The plant was designed and construction supervised by the firm of Smith Kerry and Chace.
MISCELLANEOUS:
The plants at Frankford (Dam No. 5) and Sidney (Dam No. 2) are practically duplicates of one another. The main difference in the design of the powerhouse is that at Frankford, an erecting space was left between the raised switchboard room at the shore end of the powerhouse and the exciters. This erecting area was once served by a railroad spur. The switchboard room is situated on the platform about 1.2 m (4 ft) above the main plant floor, thus allowing the operator a good view of the powerhouse.
