Nanticoke Generating Station

The Nanticoke coal-fuelled generating station is
located on the north shore of Lake Erie in Haldimand
County, Ontario. Its eight generating units are
capable of producing 3,964 megawatts (MW) of
power. The station's annual production is in the range
of 20 to 24 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), enough
electricity to run nearly 2.5 million households for a
full year.
Commitment to Excellence
Nanticoke's staff of about 600 highly skilled people
includes engineers, technicians, mechanical and electrical
maintenance tradespeople, plant and equipment
operators, environmental technicians, managers and
administrators. Together, they strive to maintain a
workplace that is safe, healthy and respectful of all
employees. The installation of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)
equipment on two of Nanticoke’s eight units
reduces nitrogen oxide emissions from these units
by 6,000 tonnes annually, or by 80 per cent from 2000
levels.
Plant management and staff are focussed on continual
improvement. Recent upgrades include improvements
to boilers and turbines, coal pulverizer modifications,
rehabilitation of the plant's ash particle collection
process and the installation of low nitrogen oxide
burners.
Nanticoke is committed to producing electricity safely,
reliably, cost effectively and as cleanly as possible. To
achieve these goals, the station emphasizes
environmental and quality management, and a
commitment to operations excellence.
