Lambton Generating Station

The Lambton coal-fuelled generating station (GS) is
located on the St. Clair River, in St. Clair Township,
26 km south of Sarnia, Ontario. Its four generating
units are capable of producing 1,976 megawatts
(MW) of power. The station's annual production is
in the range of 11 billion kilowatt-hours, more than
three times the amount of electricity used annually
by homes, schools, hospitals and businesses in
London.
Lambton GS has been an important contributor
to the Sarnia Lambton community since its
construction began in the mid-1960s. As well as
providing local residents with electricity and a
steady source of employment and a stimulation to
the local economy, the station helps ensure a
reliable supply of power for the petrochemical
and other industries in southwestern Ontario.
Two units are equipped with flue gas
desulphurization units, commonly known as
"scrubbers", which remove more than 90 per cent
of the sulphur dioxide from the flue gas. These
two generating units have also been rehabilitated
to increase their efficiency, reliability and overall
environmental performance.
Commitment to Excellence
Lambton GS's regular staff of about 400 includes
engineers, technicians, maintenance specialists,
electricians, high-pressure boiler, coal plant and
scrubber operators, environmental specialists,
managers and administrators. Together, they strive to
maintain a workplace that is respectful and
supportive of all employees.
The common goal of Lambton GS staff is to produce
electricity and by-products safely, reliably, cleanly and
cost effectively. An emphasis on environmental and
quality management, as well as a commitment to
operations excellence, is helping achieve this goal.
