About OPGPower GenerationSafety & EnvironmentIn The CommunityLearning ZoneNews Room

After helping meet Ontario's electricity needs for more than 43 years, Lakeview Generating Station stopped making electricity at the end of April, 2005.

Our relationship with the surrounding community has been a rewarding experience for both Lakeview GS and our employees. We thank you for your support over the years, and look forward to continuing that relationship as we prepare the site for possible future use as a power generating facility or other industrial use.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is removing existing equipment and buildings at the Lakeview to ensure that the site is safe and ready for future development. Plant equipment is now in a safe shutdown state, which means that pressurized systems have been de-pressurized, electrical systems have been disconnected and fluids have been removed from equipment. At this time materials are being removed from the site, useable equipment is being transferred to other OPG locations or being sold. Coal and ash are also being removed from the site.

Throughout 2006 and 2007 equipment and buildings will be removed from the site. The site will continue to be fenced off and secure. No decisions have been made regarding the future use of the site. All work is being done in compliance with government regulations and permits and in a manner that minimizes impacts on the environment and the community.
