ONTARIO POWER GENERATION'S DARLINGTON UNIT 4 BEGINS MAINTENANCE OUTAGE

[Clarington] - Ontario Power Generation's Darlington Unit 4 is now on a planned maintenance outage that is expected to be completed in about a month.

At regular intervals we take units off-line to inspect, maintain and upgrade various components as part of our station condition improvement program," said Gregory Smith, Darlington Site Vice President. "Safely operating and maintaining our equipment pays dividends in improved station performance, while a focus on quality maintenance and upgrades are essential at our stations."

Prior to this outage, Unit 4 had an operating capacity factor of over 90 per cent during 2005.

Maintenance will be performed on both nuclear and conventional (non-nuclear) systems including fuel handling, shut-down systems, and turbines.
