ONTARIO POWER GENERATION'S DARLINGTON UNIT 1 SHUT DOWN
[Clarington]: Ontario Power Generation's Darlington Unit 1 was safely shut down today to perform inspections and maintenance on a shutdown system - part of the nuclear side of the station.
Unit 1 was scheduled to begin its planned maintenance outage on Friday, October 27, 2006. As a result of shutting down the unit this morning, we have advanced work scheduled for the planned outage.
Maintenance scheduled during this outage will focus on the continuous improvement of the station's reliability; inspection, maintenance and replacement of feeder piping that is part of the Unit's nuclear heat transport system; and inspection and maintenance of the turbine generator.
Darlington units 2, 3 and 4 are all operating at 100 per cent delivering nearly 2'600 MW of electricity to the Ontario electricity grid.
