ONTARIO POWER GENERATION'S PICKERING UNITS 1 AND 4 SHUT DOWN

[Pickering]: Ontario Power Generation's Pickering Units 4 and 1 are being shut down to begin a short outage to inspect and perform maintenance on a backup electrical distribution network connecting the Pickering A and B stations.

Following recent inspections it was identified that under unusual conditions the performance of some ventilation systems could be reduced. Using a conservative decision-making approach, the Units are being taken off-line while maintenance is completed on the electrical system.

Pickering Units 6 and 8 are operating at or near 100 per cent, delivering over 1,000 MW of electricity to the Ontario electricity grid. Pickering Units 5 and 7 are currently in maintenance outages.
