The Madawaska River Water Management Plan (MRWMP) is the result of work between local waterpower companies, including Ontario Power Generation, and the Ministry of Natural Resources. The MRWMP, implemented in 2000 and updated in 2009, is a balanced approach to water management and considers the interests of various users of the river.

The MRWMP includes operational plans for each waterpower facility or dam, provisions for management of water levels and flows, stakeholder communication and environmental programming.
