Name:
Edward

Hometown:
Markham, Ontario

University/College & discipline:
University of Toronto at Scarborough/ Bachelors of Business Administration.
Given my family background of entrepreneurial spirit, it was natural for me to study business. It is something I love and enjoy doing. I think everyone should pick something they love to do rather than what they have to do.

Position at OPG:
Management and Professional Trainee/ Risk and Assurance Services/ Internal Audit/ Head Office.

Typical day & duties:
A typical day would be meeting people, understanding what they do in their part of the business. After that, I try to examine them to see if there is any inefficiency in that department and make recommendations to correct them.

What made you choose this position at OPG?
This position shows a lot about how to deal with people and also how to make a company more efficient. Given my keen interest in business, this position was most ideal for me to get a better understanding of what would and would not work in an organization. All in all, this position allows for a great starting point to see this business from a distance and then be able to examine it closely if need be.

What's the best part about working at OPG?
There's a ton of reasons why I enjoy working at OPG. A few of them would be: I can meet different kinds of people as my job requires me to learn and advise different parts of the organization; I eventually get to see the whole organization over time as I get assigned to different projects; and lastly, I get to see things as they happen and this really gives me a thorough understanding of OPG as a whole.

The OPG atmosphere:
Since teamwork is very important, people work with each other very closely. There are events from time to time and also during holiday season where staff would go out for an activity such as bowling and have a nice time. This makes people motivated and helps them feel like a team.

Life / interests / hobbies outside work:
Stock investment is my hobby and my interest. Whenever I am free, I am reading up on business news and company activities. I am also working on my own business that I plan to start as soon as I graduate.

Future career goals:
I would want to be able to travel and go places to do business. I would also like to be able to manage and own a good business and a stock portfolio.
