Our commitment to ESG & sustainability

Being a responsible corporate citizen is at the heart of everything we do and is fundamental to our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

Who we are

A worker in orange protective gear examines a turbine at Ranney Falls hydroelectric station.

OPG is a climate change leader with one of the most diverse generating portfolios in North America.

We invest millions in local economies and employ thousands of people to maintain a modern, sophisticated energy fleet. We also partner with local, environmental, and Indigenous groups to improve the wellbeing of our site communities. Over OPG’s 20-plus-year history, our reliable, clean electricity has powered the lives of millions, and we continue to provide more than half the power Ontarians rely on every day.

Having delivered one of the world’s single largest climate change actions by closing our coal stations, OPG is now working to electrify life in one generation and achieve our goals of becoming a net-zero company by 2040 and enabling a net-zero economy by 2050.

What ESG means to OPG

Being a responsible corporate citizen is at the heart of everything we do and is fundamental to our ESG performance. OPG believes that operating in a sustainable manner, consistent with ESG principles, is critical to our future success, and to our ability to deliver value and enhance the prosperity and wellbeing of the places and people we serve.

We have integrated ESG principles into our corporate strategy, business model, risk management framework, policy requirements, and performance targets. ESG performance is directly overseen by our Board of Directors and senior management and is explicitly linked to individual performance plans, and executive compensation.
